Object Name Bead
Description String of cobalt, or Russian blue trade beads, 64 inches long. Beads are each 1/4 inches in diameter, and 1/4 inches long. It is assumed that these are the "blue cut glass" beads that are frequently seen on inventories of incoming goods in Fort Nisqually records. Trade beads are often listed in "fathoms" and 64 inches is within the length range for a fathom. These are believe to be actual Hudson Bay Company trade beads from Fort Nisqually, donated by a descendent of Edward Huggins, clerk and manager at the fort.
