Collection Fort Nisqually Permanent Collection
Object ID Number 1987.13.01
Object Name Harp, Jew's
Description Iron jaw harp, stamped into the iron at mouth piece is "Made in England". The harp appears to be made from 1/4 inch square stock iron, although it is possible that only the thin central piece was applied by forging. Measures 4 1/8 inches in overall length, and handle is 2 1/2 inches wide at widest point. This was a common trade good, listed on several invoices of goods shipped to Fort Nisqually and available for sale in the Sale Shop. A "Jew's Harp" could provide musical entertainment in any situation, as it was small, portable, and not too difficult to learn.
